Students will be given a fortnightly homework grid which will be glued into their books. The due date can be found at the top of the grids. The children are asked to tick the tasks completed and we would appreciate if you signed the grid to acknowledge that your child has completed the tasks. Many of the tasks relate to topics being covered in the classroom and also class and school events.
The two most important tasks are Reading and Mathematics.
Reading
It is important that all children continue to read regularly in order to improve their fluency skills and comprehension. A guide has been glued at the front of the Homework book which includes some examples of questions which can assist your child to develop his/her comprehension skills. Please encourage your child to record his/her reading routines on the given Reading log and it would be great if you signed it.
Mathematics
The instant recall of tables is a key skill in Year 4. We focus on different tables in the classroom, but each child is at his/her own level in the development of these skills. Other tasks allocated relate to the progress of mental maths skills and may also focus on concepts being covered at that particular time.
Please ensure that your child returns his/her Homework Book on the due date (even if not all tasks have been completed) to ensure that the new grid is glued into the book.
Some of the benefits of students completing homework at this year level are
- It assists them to reinforce lessons, and it helps them to revisit concepts at home which boosts memory retention through spaced repetition.
- It builds crucial life skills like time management. Students learn how to balance their workloads, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
- It promotes independent learning. Homework teaches students how to find answers and work through challenges without a teacher standing over them.
- It encourages parental involvement. Homework offers parents an opportunity to see exactly what is being taught and to identify any academic strengths or struggles their child has.
Thanks for your ongoing support.
