We would like to extend a sincere thank you for your ongoing support throughout this term. Your involvement in helping your children with their home practice and developing their reading skills at home has made a wonderful difference to their learning and confidence.
Please note that there will be no homework folders sent home this week. All folders will be kept at school, ready to resume next term.
Over the break, we encourage you to continue supporting your child’s literacy development in fun and simple ways. Practising blending and segmenting simple CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words (such as cat, dog, sun) and encouraging your child to write simple sentences will help maintain their progress.
Here are a few fun ideas you might like to try at home:
- Play “I spy” using sounds (e.g. “I spy something that starts with /b/”).
- Build simple words using magnetic letters or by writing them in sand, chalk, or with paint.
- Encourage your child to write short sentences about their day (e.g. “I went to the shop.”).
- Read together daily—take turns reading or have your child spot and read familiar words.
There are also some excellent free resources available online to support reading practice:
- Websites offering decodable readers for beginning readers
- DSF (Dyslexia-SPELD Foundation) phonics activity packs, which are free to download and provide engaging, structured practice
Thank you again for your continued support. We hope you all enjoy a safe, restful and fun break!
