Changes to the Report Format

During 2025 and 2026 we have been progressing with the implementation of the revised WA Curriculum.  In accordance with the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) guidelines, we report student progress and achievement to parents/ caregivers in a number of ways:

  • Formally – Mid-year and end of year Reports
  • Informally – through Seesaw, Parent Teacher correspondence and meetings
  • As requested by parents/ caregivers

As we refine and improve our practices in assessment and reporting, we have made some changes to reports inline with Catholic Education WA (CEWA) guidelines.  On the mid-year and end of year reports students will receive a grade for each learning area reflecting their current level achievement.  In determining this grade teachers use evidence of learning to make an on-balance judgement of student performance against the SCSA achievement standard for the learning area.  The achievement standard describes the expected level that the majority of students are achieving or working towards by the end of that year of schooling.  Teachers collect evidence of student learning through formal and informal assessments and use the SCSA Assessment Pointers to inform their professional judgement when reporting against the Achievement Standard.

Previously, for some learning areas, we have allocated a grade for the strands or modes e.g. reading, writing, speaking and listening.   While students learn specific skills in each strand/ mode there is also an inter-connection in the concepts in these strands/ modes and the way in which students learn and demonstrate their understanding of them.  For example, reading and writing are inter-related and students use their literacy skills in understanding literature.  The grade on the student report reflects students’ achievement to date in the whole learning area.

To ensure we provide high quality assessment and reporting practices, we will not be grading strands or modes.  During parent teacher meetings staff can provide you with further detail regarding your child’s progress in the development of specific skills.  This includes feedback on how your child is achieving in learning areas in relation to the SCSA curriculum and assessment pointers and what they need to be able to display in order to progress in specific skill areas (e.g. reading, writing, number and algebra etc).

Please note the achievement standards describe the expected achievement for students who have been taught the curriculum content for the full year of schooling.  The reports provided mid-year, report on the level of achievement that the student is demonstrating relative to the achievement standard, taking into account the curriculum that has been taught and assessed to that point in time.

SCSA’s Achievement Standards can be found on their website here (Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on your child’s specific year level). Further information on teaching, assessment and reporting can also be viewed on the SCSA Parent Page here.

So in summary, an overall grade and an effort level will be given for the learning areas being reported.  The final page of the report will still include personal and social learning and a general comment.

Please note that some students require a differentiated curriculum to cater for their individual learning needs.  These students have an Individual Education Plan and will receive a report which reflects student’s progress/ achievement in terms of the modified curriculum.

Parent Teachers Meetings

We value the opportunity to connect in person with our families, so if you would like to meet with a teacher to discuss any aspect of your child’s report after it is released, please email them directly and arrange a time that is suitable for you both.
