On Tuesday, 11th August, our Year Two students enjoyed a wonderful excursion to Kalamunda History Village. We were blessed with beautiful sunshine, making it the perfect day to explore and learn about life in the past.
This excursion supported our History unit, The Past and the Present, and gave students the opportunity to participate in the guided tour “Junior Pioneer Life.” Throughout the day, students discovered what life was like during the early days of settlement and learned about the domestic history of our local area since the arrival of the first settlers.
The Village provided an engaging insight into the society and environment of our rural pioneers through a variety of interactive and hands-on experiences. Students experienced a very strict old-fashioned schoolroom, listened to the loud sounds of the blacksmith at work, explored a traditional pioneer cottage, and tried some of the hard labour involved in washing and ironing clothes. They also had the chance to play with a selection of old-fashioned toys and games, which proved to be a highlight for many.
To finish our day, we enjoyed lunch together on the old train platform before heading back to school. Throughout the excursion, students gained a deeper understanding of how different life was in the past and were able to make valuable connections to their classroom learning.
We were also very fortunate to have many wonderful parents join us and assist throughout the day. Their support helped make the excursion such an enjoyable and successful experience. We sincerely thank them for their time and assistance.
It was a memorable day of learning, discovery, and fun for all involved!
