On 17th August, Thalia from the Water Corporation came to visit the Year 2’s, 3’s and 4’s at St Anthony’s School Greenmount to teach us about water in Aboriginal culture. The Year 3 classes learnt a few Noongar words in relation to water like
Kep means water
Bilya means river
Pinjar means lake
Wardon means ocean.
We got to feel a kangaroo skin, boomerang and a coolamon, which Noongar people used to hold water in. Thalia also explained the Gnangara mound, which is where we get 40% of our water from. We also learnt that Australian native bees are black in colour or blue and black stripped. They are friendly and harmless and rarely sting.
Thank you to Ms Julia for organising this incursion
