After weeks of construction, Wednesday, 18th March was “Race Day” for the Solar Car Challenge.

It certainly lived up to the name of being a challenge – there were many technical difficulties, up to and including wheels falling off and many crossed wires (both literal and figurative).

Part of the challenge is for the students to work as a team and try to problem solve the challenges as they arose (without adult support). Even though this was a competition, special mention needs to go to Finn Bastian as he was instrumental in assisting other teams with their technical difficulties.

After a number of heats and finals there was one car that was consistently able to run on solar energy, keep on the track and won the greatest number of events.

Therefore, congratulations to the ‘Smart Cookies’ – Finn B, Ezechi N, Luca R and Dustin W. This is the team who will be representing us at the regional competition on Tuesday 24th March.
