As part of our NAIDOC Week activities, we have managed to secure an early performance by Yirra Yaakin for our Pre-Primary to Year 6 students. The performance will take place on Monday, 11th May over two sessions. Although NAIDOC week isn’t until early July, National Sorry Day (26th May) and Reconciliation Week (27th May to 3rd June) are fast approaching.
Yirra Yaakin will present Djinda Kaatijin a celestial journey through Dreaming stories from around the world. Set 30,000 years after the Nyitting Time, Weitj (Emu), Dwert (Dingo), and Wardong (Crow) travel across the Milky Way to restore the fading stars, Djinda to Noongar boodjar. Blending stories from Australia, Spain, India, and Scotland, this interwoven tale celebrates our shared connection to the cosmos. With a gentle reminder to pause, look up and imagine. Djinda Kaatijin invites audiences to reconnect with the stars, their stories and the wonder of the world around us.
We look forward to our students engaing in this special presentation.
