Harmony Day is a special opportunity for us to celebrate Australia’s rich cultural diversity and to reflect on the values of inclusiveness, respect and belonging. It is a day to recognise that, no matter where we come from, everyone belongs.
This year, our Harmony Day celebrations will take place on Tuesday, 24th March and will focus on the continent of Africa, exploring its vibrant cultures, traditions and wildlife. As part of the celebration, students are encouraged to come dressed as an African animal. Please ensure costumes are comfortable and appropriate, as students will be wearing them for the entire school day. Students may wish to bring a change of clothes if their costume can not be worn for the whole day. Alternatively, students may choose to wear orange, the official colour of Harmony Day.
We are very excited to welcome Desriee Andreone as our guest speaker. Desriee will share her experiences and insights, helping students deepen their understanding and appreciation of African culture and the importance of celebrating diversity.
We warmly invite any families who have connections to Africa and would like to be involved in our celebrations to please contact the school office. We would love to include you and learn from your experiences.
Throughout the day, students will:
- Create beaded necklaces and masks with their buddies
- Take part in a fun “African Safari Walk” to proudly showcase their costumes
- Engage in learning experiences that promote cultural understanding and respect
We look forward to a joyful day filled with learning, culture and celebration, as we come together to acknowledge and embrace the diversity that makes our school community so special.
