Last Friday, 20th February, our four student leaders attended the GRIP Leadership Conference at the Perth Convention Centre.  Together with over 1000 other student leaders from across WA schools, they participated in an engaging, informative and inspirational presentation about being a leader in our school and a future leader in society. The students thoroughly enjoyed their time at GRIP and wrote a short speech about some of the main things that they took away from the experience.  The students shared their reflections with the whole school at a recent assembly.

Cosi:

Good morning, everyone, I’m Cosi and I’m head boy.  On Friday Xander, Penny, Siena, and I all went to the Leadership conference also known as GRIP.

G stands for Generosity. At the conference, they taught us generosity. Being generous means to share and give to others.  An example is making lunches for kids that don’t have anything to eat.  This was what one of the schools did to show generosity.

Xander:

R stands for Responsibility. Hi, my name is Xander and I’m deputy head boy and I’m going to teach you how to be responsible, like they did to me at GRIP.  You can be responsible by helping do chores at home without being asked or help a classmate who is struggling.

Penny:

I stands for Integrity. I’m sure a lot of you don’t know what that means, you’re probably going what is she talking about? Well that was me when I walked into that place. In integrity there are the 5 A’s: Always, Aim, Apologise, Act and Actions. Together, they make up integrity.

Siena:

P stands for People and at our Leadership Conference we saw a lot… of people!  We had so many opportunities to talk to different people and got the chance to ask them different questions too.  When we were at the conference the workers gave us the meaning of people in GRIP.  I’m sure you all know what people is, but this is different, you must be able to talk to people and be confident in yourself, because if you’re not confident then what’s the point of being a leader?
As a leader these are the things you should do.  Everyone who lead us through the conference was so nice and I recommend that you try to go for a leadership position when you get to Year 5, because the conference is a BLAST!
